I enjoy Harry Belefonte's rendition above. He is inaccurate as to the meaning on Mark Twain. Mark Twain is the second mark on the lead line used for measuring depth and corresponded to two fathoms, a depth considered good for the steam ships of the day.

I still use a lead line today. It is very useful anchoring where there are a lot of rocks. I can take the lead line and go to different locations of my boat and check the depth. Also easy to carry on the dingy and check in the area the boat will swing. I used to sail and anchor in areas with a lot on rocks and it has saved me several times. I also use it to calibrate my electronic depth finder.

I am looking to replace my broken depth finder and I really do not want to spend more than $200, any recommendations?

Thanks in advance
What kind do you have, and what is broken? Can the transducer be replaced or the instrument face (depending on what is broken)?

You're not likely to get an answer as the original post is now over 5 years old and the poster was "Last Seen" in Mar 2017.

Dang, I hate it when that happens...I just see a new post (in this case a reply) and assume the thread is fairly current. Oh well, long winter layup...I guess I can waste time on old posts ;-).
