My Stock 1999 Hunter passage 420 has the stock 3 blade cruising prop.
Does anyone know the red line of the 50-hp Yanmar and at 3/4 throttle, what the cruising RPM would be. I am assuming 3300 redline and 2450 at 3/4 throttle, does that sound about right.

Also what kind of performance/speed do you get at that RPM?
What is your burn rate?

I am gathering info for a cruise, relocating my boat from Oceanside Cal to Portland Oregon, more info I have the better prepared I will be.

Thanks in Advance
Bob

On the top of your engine is a plate. It indicates Maximum RPM and Continous running RPMs. Your max may be around 3600 and continous around 3400. You can run at the continous rating as long as you want and at max for around 30 minutes. If you have an engine manual it may have a curve for best fuel economy. For most efficient operation you are probably good around 2800 rpms. I burn around 1.25 gal/hr at 2800 RPMs and 7 knots. I have a flexofold prop that is oversized which is not good but that is where I am with my 50 HP.

Look at the plate as sailgunner said. Normally you want to be running a diesel engine at 70-80% of the continuous rating.

our 2000 420 burns consistantly 1gal/hr @2700 rpm with a speed of 7 knots. Surprisingly @ 2400 the burn rate is 3/4 gal/hr with a speed of 6 knots
