I bought a catalina 22 (with a wing keel) this summer and I have been thoroughly enjoying it. I'm working up my confidence in strong wind (just 12 mph so far) and getting better each time. So my question is, at the end of the day when it's time to make dinner on the dock, what is the best bbq to have? I do have the alcohol stove but I don't know anything about it. Should I cook my food over that or invest in a bbq?

Thanks

There are a *lot* of marine grills out there. I have been researching them for a long time - but I have yet to buy one. They tend to be very expensive! A tiny marine grill is the same price as a big land grill that you could feed a party with! (~$200)

Magma makes some nice ones:

WestMarine caries the Magma brand. There are some other really nice grills out there, but they are even more expensive. From previous Google-ing I remember that some people use a "land" Weber gas grill, but I could never find out which model it was. The advantage to these "marine" grills is that the lid is attached so you will never accidentally drop the lid in the water!

and another advantage of a good marine quality grill is that it shouldn't rust out as quickly in the marine environment.

Magma

I can vouch for the Magma it's quite the grill and we use it a lot.

That said before we bought it we used a 15.00 sunbeam set up on a cross cockpit table, it too worked great. (just make sure you stay with good cuts of meat with as little grease as possible)

I sail with a couple of fellows that still use the table grills but both have found the ones made from aluminum (very hard to find)

You will want to make sure you stow the propane bottles out of the cabin, ours are stowed in a bag on the rail.

I can't say enough about the Magma grills. We have a larger one on the power boat and a kettle grill on the Sailboat. The Kettle grill is over 8 yrs old and still works like its new.
We cook of either one or the other boats at least 5 nights a week. So they get a lot of use.

We also like our little single burner butane stove. Cheap,(check out discount camping stores and eBay, less than $30.), good heat control, and dandy for taking the chill out of the cabin.
