I have been facinated by the many faces the Chesapeake Bay can present in a single season. We get storms of all types, we get the doldrums in July and August, we can get thick ice in the winter. If you can't sail the bay every day from March to December them you probably aren't ready to sail around the world.

I agree with you Ross. It is amazing the people you meet in the Chesapeake Bay when you are dingying around the anchorages. I met a guy who was living board an O'day 28 and he had been up the ditch and down the ditch several times. He had no refrigeration or many of the other items and he was single handed, except for his small dog. He had quite a few interesting adventures.

The Chesapeake Bay is a wild and mysterious place. There are awesome places to check out around the way. If you want to hit some heavy seas go through the area near Point Lookout and Smith Point in 25 knots of wind from the North West and an incoming tide. You will earn your sea legs in that area in those conditions.

You don't need to reach the moon on your first blast off, you should do some exploring around first before you try such a trying voyage!

There is about 8000 miles of tidal shoreline on the Chesapeake Bay. There are 58 named rivers and several creeks that could be mistaken for rivers. You can find everything here for sailing the world . During the build up for world war 2 the Navy trained their amphibian boat crews for the Solomon Island invasion at Solomons, Md.
