Oday 20 My garage
Alright friends,

I am working on my O'day 20 and am curious what your most useful, favorite, or just best mod is. Doesn't have to be specific to the 20 or O'day for that matter. I want to see input from all of you seasoned sailers as I am relatively new to the sport.

Thanks,

Scott

A new rudder from IdaSailor for my '22 was a big improvement. It kicks up and totally eliminated the weather helm and rudder drag when heeling the boat over hard. Leading the main halyard and reefing lines aft along with a roller furling head sail for single-handing on the Great Lakes is also very useful.

Good ideas. An autopilot is also a great addition. Don't know if you have a battery or not.

solar power... enough to supply the daily demands while keeping the battery charged at the same time.

Gimbled drink holders. Next question?
my wife is my gimbaled drink holder, whenever it becomes necessary... but the issue I keep having is the gimbal part must be broken and so it doest keep the drink upright, and when i get it back some of the contents is missing....;)

I added roller furling to my jib and love it.Also added a "Tiller Tamer"which, for the money,is really handy.

Here's some of the upgrades that made the biggest difference for me, excluding things like new sails, spinnaker, running rigging etc.

-4 Blade High-Thrust propeller
-Auto Pilot
-Chart Plotter (if navigating beyond the visible horizon)
-LED cabin lighting (saves battery)
-Folding Seat (Here)
-Stereo with cockpit speakers (inducers, no holes required) and RF remote

I would have to say my Auto-helm Autopilot with my CDI Roller Reefing Furler as a close second.

Auto tiller, and I dream of a headsail furler. 2nd actual purchase is reliable aux power (well, still working on that). 3rd is solar panel.

I am not finished with it yet, but I was inspired by a photo I saw here of a utility shelf fitted into the bottom of the companionway hatch slides. I really don't want to cut holes in my boat, so I am making a similar low profile piece (minimizing trip hazards) which will hold a cheap depth finder and two more drink holders. The project is on hold while I first make new hatch boards from my old bulkheads.
