Since Odorsafe only comes in 1-1/2", what is the best 1" hose to use to replace the hose between my 1" macerator and thru hull fittings. I was thinking of using 1" to 1-1/2" hose barb adapters so I could use Odorsafe but that would give me 4 more connections to possilby leak. Should I do that any way, or is there a good enough 1" hose. I have been looking at Shields series 101 super head hose. Thanks for your help!

Shields 101 or even 148 (white) is best...

As long as you're making the effort to do all this, now would also be a good time to replace the tee fitting in the pumpout line with a y-valve (which, btw, should always be aimed at the pumpout fitting except when actually dumping the tank at sea). If you put it close to the outlet fitting on the tank, you'll cut off waste in the hose coming off it to the macerator, which will also keep waste out of the hose coming OFF the macerator. If you REALLY want to be anal about it, you could even install a shut-off valve in the side going to the pumpout fitting too...but that could make pumping out more of a PITA than it's worth. :) At the risk of being perceived of trying to sell you something (although it's actually the online store here that gets the most from it), my book has several chapters devoted to replacing hoses which include tips that make the job a bit easier and a lot less "yucky."

Thanks and a follow-up

Peggy, Thanks for the advice. I’ve had your book for months, it’s a great reference. I do want to try to put in a Y and/or a shut off if I can figure out how to do it. The existing T out of the holding tank appears to be a regular PVC plumbing fitting glued to the tank so I don’t think I am going to be able to change that. As to my original question, do you think it is better to just go with the 1" shields 101 for the macerator to thru hull, or use the hose barb adapters to step up to the 1-1/2" Odorsafe? Thanks again, Richard
