I would like to use the forward starboard berth on my 410 for my 9 month old child. I've seen photos of netting used as the restraint technique but I am interested to know if anyone has done a custom modification as well as a netting or lee cloth solution.

Roll tacking

We have sailed with our twin daughters from the time they were 3 months old. When they napped in the Vberth we had to "tack" the kids as we tacked the boat. At 9 months we used a pertable bed rail that slipped under the cusions. Our kids are now 26 months old and they are asking when we are going sailing again!! Bob

Travel bed

Ron, I don't know the dimensions of you v-berth but in in raising 3 kids sailing on our h23, (first time on board ages 8 mo., 7wks, and 3 mo.), we relied on a travel bed/playpen that we set up in the main cabin area. The high sides, with padding low and netting above provided comfortable place that we knew was safe, and was close enough to watch from the cockpit. Jim Kolstoe, h23 Kara's Boo

playpen

Congratulations! Bringing your kids up on a boat is great. Ours, at 6 yrs. and 3 yrs., now also can't wait to go sailing. We used a foldable playpen/sleeper made by Graco (I think). The fall from a berth is pretty far. The playpen had a padded floor and was also a good place for the kids to sleep. Good luck!

Infant Berth

Ron, It has been many years since we had Infants but what we did was to take an old basket type cradle and I constructed a gimbaled structure which was fastened onto the floor (our boat was only 24' then).. As I can remember I used C Clamps to hold it... Hope this helps?? Wilkie

Car seat

I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. We have rigged up a car sea in the entry way. I have a 1/2 inch piece of plywood I stick into the slot for the door boards. It has two holes in it that I run a 1/2 inch line that I use to strap a car seat to it. Our 2 year old loves it. It is a highly sheltered spot under the dodger. He can see and if he gets tired he can take a nap. The only problem is you have to step over it to go down below.
