Bermuda, anyone?

I am planning a trip to Bermuda in June of 2001 and I am looking for boats to buddy up with. I had planned to join the Bermuda rally by West Marine and Steve Black but he will not be organizing it unless he gets more interest. I planning to leave the coast from the mid atlantic region to minimize the gulf stream crossing. Any interest out there?

Hi Alan:My understanding is that the West Marine Bermuda Rally leaves out of Hampton Roads, VA. I presume then that you're not opposed to meeting a group of boats at the confluence of the lovely Chesapeake Bay and the Altantic Ocean.I suggest that you advertise in SpinSheet magazine that is well distributed up and down the East Coast. (www.SpinSheet.com) You will surely get some takers. Size matters. Some of these organized rallys have length requirements that myself and others cannot meet. Could a Catalina 27 possibly make such a journey?ThanksMelody

Bermuda !!

Hamptom Roads is a verry good starting port as the distance across the gulf stream is very narrow and you are past if very quickly. The Crusing Rally did have a minimun size (35') and very specific gear and safety requirements. Any well found vessel should have an easy trip, however the shorter the waterline the rougher the trip. I have the Cruising rally's old requirements and could e-mail is your interessted.

You mentioned a rally web-site. Is it "http://www.carib1500.com/"? At the very least it has a checklist of required items for joining the rally.

Alan, We have been talking about putting a bermuda trip together, also, for the same time.We have contacted Steve also and would like to do the west marine trip. If the trip does not come together we do want to plan a trip anyway. and we live in the hampton roads area .You can email us , Brian
