After I purchased my boat in early 2014 I noticed the mast was bent. ( No fear I got #427 real cheap). When I took the mast down at the end of the season I saw how bent it really was. Well following the u-tube video I straightened the mast.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIJaUKt_k20 I wish I would have taken before/after photo's.

I had to bend the mast at least 4 feet past straight, in order for it to return to straight.

I suspect the previous owner had taken the mast down for the winter, covered with a tarp and did not put any additional supports. Snow built up and ---the rest i history.

Capri 427 with the Race package, roller furling, a 145% , 120% hank on, 1 155 hank on. almost new 8hp Tohatsu electric start. $2,000. I sold the Tohatsu for $1,000 Anybody in need of hank on head sails ?

I kept the spinnaker, spinnaker pole , and 4 HP Evinrude from #297 which I sold.

Hersh, once again I think you and I were bidding on the same boat... I saw that hull 427 for sale for $2000, and called the guy as soon as I saw it... he said he had another buyer. I told him I won't argue if the sale didn't go through. Price was too good to pass up... I am glad it ended up with a member here (I honestly didn't want another Capri 22, but it seemed criminal for a good boat to not get a good home).

I had NEVER heard of someone successfully straightening a mast out themselves, that's pretty sweet!

All cool info... yeah I had to reread your post a few times to realize you sold your old boat, kept this one, and took parts to "upgrade" this boat for yourself (all makes perfect sense now).

more pictures or it never happened.

My boats # 297 & 427. I originally purchased 297 in Ithaca NY fall of 2011. It was the basic boat. No traveler, no cabin top winches, no adjustable back-stay. basic out-haul. But spinnaker pole & spinnaker. (Like new)

In the fall of 2013 while helping another club-member take his boat out for the season, he fell on the dock. At that time he decided to sell his boat. ( a few years earlier he had a massive heart attack) . I offered to put it on this site and others. $5,000.

After a week or two he e-mails me and another club member saying, "First $2,000 and it is yours." The other member job was a little shaky and he did not want to be stuck with two boats. So I purchased it. The outboard was an almost new Tohatsu 8 electric start (after the heart attack his Dr. told him no pull starting. )

So I took the spinnaker and very light Evinrude 4 off 297 to use on my "new" 427, and put 297 up for sale.

Luck was with me as a yacht club about 50 miles from me has 3 Capri 22'sd which they rent out to members. And they dropped one the previous fall. So they needed a replacement boat. I had purchased a new main and traveler for it( was not installed). I sold the Tohatsu for $1,000 ( that buyer got a bargain).

I hope you are following all this.

By the way, a good friend is selling his Colgate. This is one great day-sailer. Huge cockpit Great boat. FAST.

Anyway -- everybody is happy.

Due to the weather we seem to be about 1-2 weeks behind schedule at my club. http://www.chelseayacht.org

PS: I renamed #427
