I was looking at a nice boat this weekend and one of the keel bolt was bent back say an 1/8" from the bottom of the bilge. I was wondering could this be a problem. Do you think the owner hit something? Thanks Droop
I have a Venture 222 and when I got her, the keel pivot bolt was badly bent! After time, just the weight of the keel on the bolt will alter its shape. I replace mine every other year, with a stainless steel bolt bought from True Value! You didnt say what kind of boat you were looking at, but there are three keel bolts on my boat. The pivot bolt, lock down bolt, and stop bolt! Age will alter all!
...it was bent back, and if it happened as a result of an impact, then the boat was moving backwards at the time of impact. Also, have to wonder why the others didn't bend??
