I am looking for advice on the rigging tensions for the Beneteau 331. I am not a racer but would like an optimum set up. It appears that most of the available information is very general. It would seem that a tension for the 4 cables to the top of the mast as a starting point should be available.

I am currently using a general guideline of 12%.

12 to 15% of breaking strength is usually fine for regular sailing.

If you are going to be racing you usually set it higher.

I assume you are using a Loos Gauge to measure tension.

Mine are set to 13%.

Thanks for the input.

I have seen the USSpar guidelines. By the way if you have a roller furling mast you may want to check the assembly and the mounting bolts. During a replacement of the in haul line I found several screws missing in the assembly and cracks in the mounting channel in the mast. They have chanaged the way they mount the assembly. I am not sure if this applies to boats other than the 331.

Yes, I am using Loos gages and setting to 12% of breaking strength. I experimented with the lower shrouds and found they were loose under sail at less than 12%. Looks like I may be at or close to the minimum at 12%.
