Beneteau 40 Key West
I own and sail a 1980 H25 on an Iowa lake. I hauled my craft to the Apostle Islands last summer for 2 weeks and made the crossing to Isle Royale and back. Great experience and I and the boat did fine. A couple of weeks ago I did a Sunsail charter at the BVI's and spent a week on a beautiful Beneteau 393. I 'm interested in their purchase program. What are the opinions out there about this kind of purchase. I realize there are pros and cons but the concept looks pretty good to me. By the way, I'm in heat for the Beneteau 373 that I saw at the Chicago sailboat show on Navy pier. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks, Dennis

follow the money

I know several big boat (owners)in fleets. Each owner is paying out the nose for the privalage of owning a big boat, making the payments for a big boat, paying the expenses of a big boat and not getting to sail the boat... does that sound like fun..... If this was a win win thing, then why dont the charter co. own the boats.???? our rent a car Co. own thier cars, and then sell them off. ???? The Diff. is that YOU PAY FOR maintanance and expenses !!!!!!!!! because its your boat. NO thanks I say.... my H-36 is big enough for me.

I Charter Mine

I own a Beneteau 36 that I have in charter. They tell you it will pay for its sel, but that just isn't so! You can expect to recoup most of your expenses or cover most of your yearly expenses (one or the other), but owning a boat costs. The statements about the inexperienced sailors damaging you boat is true. If you still want to do this, I suggest purchasing used. Better yet, bail me out of mine, it has only been in the water for 2 years. Bob Ogden 763-755-3749
