beneteau oceanis electric winch

Can someone help me. I´m a new owner of Beneteau oceanis 46 (2007). The eletric winch do not work... the fuse behind the control panel is fine. Ie. the problem must be another fuse or relay somewhere. BUT WHERE I CAN FIND THOSE ?... Any other advices behind the bossible reasons?
regards Petri

Brookster is right. There is a breaker (relay) in the cabinet with the battery switches.

Hi

Learn't this problem the hard way, however, depending on the size of the windlass, I found that in calm wind or even a big blow that a lot of sailors do not consider motoring up to ease the strain on the rode, but expect the windlass to do all the work, hence tripping of the circuit breaker. No doubt your circuit btreaker has tripped and requires re-setting.

You may have another problem besides tripping breakers...
It sounds like you need to do some good ol' fashioned troubleshooting.

If you don't own a small volt-ohmeter -get one, it will pay for itself on this one job. Determining where you do, and do not have juice is the key.

You want to find out where the power is lost by checking voltage through the system.

Are you getting power to the switches controlling the winch motor?
Are you hearing a relay click when you push the switch?
With the switch pushed, are you getting power to the winch motor?

Doing these simple tests will help you determine where the problem lies. What's likely to NOT be simple is getting access to these components to check them!

Winch motors run at a lower gear-ratio than a windlass motor, so they are less likely to burn the motor brushes. I would first focus on the relay and the control switch. Simple corrosion can easily render one of these inoperative.

BTW... the breaker NOT being tripped is a good sign... it means that power is just interrupted somewhere as opposed to having a short-circuit which could cause a fire! (the sole purpose of the breaker is to prevent that, by cutting the power BEFORE something heats up)

Patience & perseverance will save you money in the end!

One thing about electrical systems: in addition to the good advice here, CHECK ALL THE CONNECTIONS. Even if they look good, remove them, each one, clean them up, and reassemble them. 99% of all electrical issues are the connections.
