I am contracted to purchase this yacht in 4 years time. On recent charter in Kos I have discovered that my boat and similar boats have a serious fault with the Yanmar engine/sail drive. At least two boats have been affected and one nearly sunk. The problem appears to be that the engine is mounted with only two mounting brackets instead of the normal 4 as a prop drive shaft installation would have. This has resulted in the brackets failing when the yacht is heeled and motoring. i.e all the weight of the engine is transferred to one mounting bracket.
As far as I can understand the agents in Kos have been told that Yanmar are providing modified washers for the current mounting bracket system.
It would seem to me this is a temporary fix and does not provide a safe off shore yet alone ocean going solution to the problem.
Any yacht engineers comments would be greatly appreciated, or any useful contacts in Beneteau or Yanmar.
