Hi all,
Recently part of the mast step on my 2002 361 broke away ( see a picture in my other recent post ) Everyone that has seen the step or the picture feel that the cast aluminium step was possibly faulty when installed, maybe it was a bad casting or was damaged in some other way.
If you have a deck stepped mast sitting on a similar step I suggest you take a moment to look at it, it seems the original installer had sat the step on something like Sikaflex, this product had also blocked all the drainage holes located on the bottom of the base of the step. It seems water has been running down the block pins and should then have drained away, in my case this was not happening, this error, in my view, must have contributed to the parts failure.
