This site first-35s5-lead-keel lists the deck construction as: Sandwich fiberglass polyester
Assume this means the deck is not constructed using balsa wood (fiberglass sandwiched around a balsa core)?
Is there less risk of getting soft spots on the deck due to water getting under the first layer of fiberglass - in other words is there the same risk with a polyester core as a balsa core?

thanks.

I wouldn’t make that assumption. I’d read it as saying that the deck is a sandwich of fiberglass with polyester resin, sandwiching some unspecified core material. Polyester as the core material would be an unusual characteristic. I think “polyester” just refers to the resin used with the glass, the same way they describe the hull as “single skin fiberglass polyester”. Looking at how they describe the construction of some other boats it doesn’t look like the construction info is always all that exact.
