Hi Guys,
So I made an offer on and it was accepted for the Beneteau First 305. Did the inspection and the hull looks good, paint job will probably last another two-years.
Here are some buyer questions I could use your help with:
1) The broker said for $25 she will get a lien report from USCG but I wanted to know if that was a sufficient way to check for liens on the title or is there no sure way?
2) Broker also said $300 for USCG certification; I visited the website, seems like I can locally register it in Alaska w/o going through USCG and save me $300?
3) Because I am paying cash and don't have the luxury of the bank charging me to run through a title service company should I add a clause on the bill of sale that says any future liens discovered are the sellers responsibility?
Technical Questions:
1) During the inspection the inspector pulled on the propeller shaft, as did I. We both saw movement when jerking the propeller shaft up and down but that is all it was, movement. Now, the inspector recommends I get that fixed but the broker thinks the flex is within normal operating parameter and I probably don't have much to worry about. So, who's right?
2) I am discovering that the world of 'boat yard work,' is crazy. Boat setup fee, blocking fee, jumping on one leg fee, travel fee from dry dock to slip fee, etc. As a result I am skipping dry docking the boat to repaint (since it will last 2 years) if I can get away with no issues regarding #1. Seems it's cheaper to get someone to go to a slip to fix 'above water' issues that the boat has then to pay the lift fee, dry dock fee, stand fee, setup fee, etc.,
Feedback appreciated!
Lastly, I have young kids, one of the things I want to do is install a 'net' type lifeline (maybe 2-3 feet high) on the aft side, is that something I can purchase online or would i have to DIY via homedepot or something?
