Considering buying a 1990 Beneteau First 285, but spreaders on the mast appear to angle downwardly and outwardly, rather than slightly upwardly to put spreaders in compression. Any similar problems or ideas?
The spreaders likely will move up and down just by bumping them by hand. The inboard end of the extrusion may be "stetched" open a bit and cause a little too much play on the spreader base, but if you went up the mast and bumped them up a little it would look more normal. The compression loading of the shrouds should keep them wherever you adjust them, so it shouldn't be a problem.Good luck,Tim
