Folks,

What type of anchor is the dual bowroller on the Beneteaus designed for? Layla is a 461 but I think bowroller is one of the "common" parts that Beneteau uses on a variety of models.

My issue is in the Bruce anchor on the stb side of my bowroller: It doesn't leave much room for anything else to be mounted on the port side. I just purchased a (very heavy ) Delta anchor and would like mount it on the port side as the secondary anchor for the upcoming Bahamas trip - I'll try to get creative  and fit it in there somehow but another question is in using the same windlass for both anchors: I think there is enough room for both chains to go through the hawse pipe but wouldn't they get tangled up in the anchor locker? I am sure there is a trick to partitioning the locker so the two do not foul each other - Does anybody have any ideas on doing this gracefully?

Fair winds!

Beneteau FIRST 42 Coos Bay, Oregon
For a number of years I ran around with 3 to 5 different anchors for different bottoms. and this sounds like an advertisement.. but I bought a Rocna.... That big ol ugly sucker with a "hoop" hangs off the bow of my FIRST 42 and sence I bought it, I havent used anything else.. I have kept my fortress for extreme weather as a second anchor but it uasally stays folded up in its bag in the quarter. we use our 42 for cruising so I pack 800 feet of ht-bbb chain to keep her in line..
Remember that your ground tackle is your insurance policy while you sleep at night and a couple thousand is well worth spending to keep your boat off the rocks.

I had heard/read positive reviews of the Rocna - It is expensive indeed :( and very much out of my price range for now.

I have purchased and installed an oversized Delta... Delta has a very good reputation for this area (East Coast, FL, Bahamas) - I hope to augment with a suitable size Fortress - just because of stowage concerns... The old Bruce has already been demoted to the lazarette :)

Fair winds - Enjoy the First 42; sailed on them before: Wonderful boats - Is she an 80's vintage? I almost purchased a First 42 "project boat" from someone in Houston before Layla - we could not agree on price :( I guess it's all the better; the 7' draft would have been extremely limiting...

Dual anchor bow roller

I don't have an answer for you but I can commiserate with your isssues. I own a 1993 B35s5 with presumably the same anchor roller. I can not really get my Bruce anchor to fit securely without the fluke hitting the bow. The shank of the anchor rubs against the upper portion of the roller furling mechanism. So I just keep the anchor in the locker but its heavy and difficult to set and retrieve.

Bahamas anchor

We have spent the last two winters on our Beneteau 44CC in the Bahamas and getting ready for the 3rd trip. We have two Delta anchors on the bow rollers but only ever use the larger one on the starboard roller. We set the anchor is with 7 to 8 scope on chain rode and (knock on wood) never had any dragging problems even in 35 knot winds. We always try to set it in sandy bottom.

Fair sailing. :)
