Beneteau 473 Tank Level Sensor

I have a 2006 Beneteau 473 and am looking to add tank level meters to my holding tanks and freshwater tanks. The holding tanks and the Forward / Aft water tanks seem pretty straight forward with most senor options open to me (rod or outside tank sensor).

My issue is with the port and starboard water tanks. They are under the deck midships with small access ports to them. Are there any current or former 473 owners or people familar with this issue that got senors (either outside the tank or rods) into these tanks for tank level measurement. I'd like to use the outside tank sensors if possible.

Any help would be great.

Adding to what Woody said...

The "Series 8" model of the Profile gauges will allow you to put up to 8 tanks--water, waste and fuel--on the same system. Dennis Ferriello also offers the best customer service on the planet...as a whole BUNCH of people here who've bought his gauges will attest.

SCAD Systems sells the Profile Gauges under their own private label brand name...they were rated best by Practical Sailor a couple of years ago...partly due to their outstanding customer service. That's because their CS phone number goes to Dennis!

Thanks all,

I'm was actually in communication with Dennis last week. The Series 8 is likely my choice. But I'd like to use the sensors outside of the tank versus the rod system. So that was why I was trying to see if there were any 473 owners that had used these sensors to ensure I ordered the right parts.

If your tanks are metal...

You'll have to go with rod senders...the external senders can't read through metal walls. The good news is, the rod senders are encased in a pvc pipe which prevents tank contents from ever coming in contact with the sender...so it can get clogged up or corrode.

Fuel tanks use a Wema internal sender regardless of tank material.

If your water and waste tanks are FG or plastic the external senders will work. If some tanks are metal and some are not, you can mix and match senders in the same system.

I just installed a Profile monitor system with both rod sensors and foil sensors from Denis at www.ferriellosales.com
I couldn't be happier. I've been meaning to write but I was out sailing for a while. Denise provided absolutely fabulous customer service second to none. I have 2 water tanks and a waste tank that needed a new monitor on our Bavaria 40 Ocean. The profile monitor was easy to install and when I realized I couldn't tape the foil sensors on the forward water tank I bought a rod sensor which was also simple to install. It's the little things that really make a difference. I mounted the Profile 8 unit partially under my nav table. When I realized the back lighting on the panel wouldn't shut off I had that sinking feeling I made a big mistake in placement. After reading the manual (yes I finally read the manual) I found there was actually a light sensitivity setting. After adjusting the back light sensitivity setting the monitory backlight worked as it is supposed to. Who every heard of someone adding a great feature like light sensitivity for the back light? When installing the sensors they have a little test LED light to show you they are receiving power and when they are on.

I recently spent many weeks cruising and entertaining guests. Having a monitor (not just a tank gauge but an system that actually monitors the tanks and tells you when you are reaching reaching full or empty) was a huge help. Great product and a great company. good luck with your install.

Peggy - I would say my wife is going to be harder on me than Dennis. She's been bugging me to get another pair of reading glasses and in this case I agree. I just noticed autocorrect spelling changed it again but I take full responsibility. :). Sorry Dennis.
