Beneteau 411?

Larry, this may be a good time to fire up your Google search engine or whatever you use, we use DuckDuckGo.

Reason? There may be just a few B411 skippers here at the moment or at all, the change to the forum software seems have reduced the volume until folks get up to speed, and those few B411 guys may not be looking today, tomorrow or all of next week.

I believe the last B411 was built in 2004 with Moorings continuing to buy a rebranded version into 2005...but you don't want one of those dogged-out charter boats. At this point you should be looking at boats that were owned and kept up by knowledgeable owners. This is traditionally constructed boat, shaft-log drive, overbuilt masthead rig, generous stern scoop that accommodates davits and a dink, large cockpit, easy access forward across a low cabin roof. You have your choice of 3 cabin or "owners" 2 cabin. There were also LE models that included upgrades including Lewmar 44 cabin-top winches and Lewmar 54 primaries. This is a complex boat, know the systems, inspect the maintenance logs, hire a good surveyor. Do it right and you have a boat that will take you safely where ever you want to go. If you plan to do any offshore sailing, you may want to consider the flat hull form of the 411 which is easily contrasted with the boat to port.

No inherent problems, this boat had a long run and a good pedigree - Groupe Finot. Inspect the deck for damage to the deck core. The OEM electric windlass (Simpson Lawrence) is due for replacement. Unless it has already been done, plan on an instrument upgrade and improvements to the house battery. The boat needs at least 400 Ah in the house. Consider solar and alternator upgrades. A cruiser needs a rub rail, the french boats did not come from the factory with one. As in any production series the later versions had more of the kinks worked out. Early models were powered by a Westerbeke diesel, later models were Yanmar diesels. The "classic" was a full-batten main and gives you more sail and better light wind power, comes with a Neil Pryde sail bag. Upgrade to a Tides Marine Strong-Track system for easy hoists/ drops. The Limited Edition versions were produced with navy blue hulls. Some like mine have a navy gel coat, others were awl gripped. This boat moves well under light winds, sail controls lead to the cockpit and is easy to sail short handed. Reef it down. We were out this weekend on the bay in 25kts, double reefed and making 8.5 kts upwind - smooth cruising.

The 411 indeed is a super boat.

Gunni, the upwind speed of a 411 in 24 knots of breeze is 6.8 knots. If you were doing 8.5, you were reaching.

Also consider the Beneteau Oceanis 400, which is the 411's forerunner and very similar in performance and design. My 1993 is currently for sale through Annapolis Yacht Sales. She's very clean/turnkey and received all new standing rigging, roller furler, and sails in 2014 as well as many other upgrades over the past few years. Has a huge inventory of spares, full cockpit enclosure, winter cover, etc, etc.

I was Swooping under a slightly too big furled genoa and gusty conditions! This boat accelerates very well.
