Hi all
Trying to figure out how to attach a whisker pole on a Beneteau 381 with an in mast furling main. Tapping anything into the mas6 seems chancy; there would very little clearance. M

Have a neighbor telling me that it clips into the baby stay, but that seems odd.

Does anybody have this rig? This can’t be à difficult question, but I’m stumped and google is making it worse.

Thanks in advance

It depends on how you are using it. Note that the pole is being forced against the mast when you are sailing in a wind.

For out of the box thinking, if it is not a racing activity, you can make a yoke on the mast end and attach a strap to hold it in place. It would be a bit low as the strap would need to wrap around the mast, but the sail would be extended which is the goal.

Something like this (in concept) for the yoke. I would want it to be beefier and properly fitted to the pole.

While racing dinghies, we took a broom handle for the pole, a bent coat hanger for the yoke, and a carabiner attached to the sail end to make a functional whisker pole. No holes in the mast were needed.

What type of mast is it? On our US Spars IMF mast the main furls in its own section in the aft portion of the mast, but the front section is clear. I’m pretty sure there’s a divider between the two, though I can’t find the diagram now that I remember showing that. I added a padeye for a whisker pole a few years ago and didn’t have any problems. I did try to be careful not to drill much deeper than the mast wall thickness. Although the main isn’t there I’m not sure where any wire runs are.
