For openers, try setting the tension based on the able diameter. use the numbers shown on the box the Loos Gauge came in. That seemed to work for me. I set the lowers first. then the uppers. I paid attention to keeping the mast in column. Adjusted the split backstay last. My 323 has no adjustment in the length of the forestay, so I don't have a lot of control over mast rake. I check and doublecheck the gauge readings several times. At least I seem to get a fairly consistent setup from season to season, and the boat trims out equally well on both tacks.
