Beneteau 331

Just had Mike at Harbour Cove Marina install a 16" MaxProp on my 331. Took it out for the first time yesterday. Best RPM I could get was 3200. Must have my setting wrong. Someelse with the same setup recommended 11 degrees. Mike said he called but I'm not sure what its set at? Suggestions.

Not Enough Pitch

My Martec Autostream is adjustable in the water and it took three trips down there to get it right. The first time I only got 3000 RPM, 2nd time the diver turned the screw the wrong way, 2600 RPM with black smoke. 3rd time perfect, 3600 RPM. I heard the Maxprop needs to be out of the water and disassembled to change the pitch, sounds like you are underpitched!

Hello Rich, Please give me a call so that I can get the engine info from you. I would like to ask about the obtainable speeds and Rpm's. There seems to be some confusion of inches of pitch and degrees of angle. Thanks Kevin 1-800-523-7558

Setting

If your prop is a 2 blade 16 inch you should be set at 11 pitch. Don't confuse pitch with angle - if you refer to the setting chart I think 11 pitch is 20 degrees. I have a two blade 17 inch on my 331 - it is set at 11 pitch and I only get 2900 rpm so I plan to adjust back one setting at haulout. Another 331 with a 16 inch 2 blade reported that he gets 3500 rpm with the 11 pitch setting.
