If your cutlass bearing is similar to

the one in my '94 OC400, the bearing is nothing but a plastic sleeve. If it needs replacing, you'll need to order it from Beneteau and it will take a while to get. Try this; remove the old one, rotate it 180 degrees and re-install. The packing gland might be a different story; mine is a dripless unit with its own water intake thru-hull.

Installation tip

I replaced my 321 cutless bearing two years ago. There is a small plastic screw in the outside of the housing that keeps the bearing from rotating with the shaft. You need to remove that screw first. There may be a second screw, but I can't remember. Look for it before trying to remove the bearing. After removing the screw(s), take a pair if pliers or channel-locks and pull out the bearing. I forgot to mention, the first thing you have to do is remove the propeller. No need to remove the propeller shaft if you remove the propeller. Once you have the old bearing out, take the new one and rub some dishwashing liquid on the interior and exterior of the bearing. This will make it make easier to slide the bearing on the shaft and into the housing. Put the plastic screw(s) back in the holes, and you should be ready for the season.
