I'm thinking about moving up and would like any info on the 311 swing keel. Sailing the gulf coast of FL and that is the reason for the requirement of a shallow draft option. all opinions will be appreciated.

Can't really tell you anything about the sailing characteristics of a 311 however the 311 is a boat I too am interested in. I'm looking for a shoal draft cruiser and have narrowed my list to a 311, an IP 27 Centerboard, and a Seaward. I looked at a 311 and really liked the layout and feel of the boat (same feel as the Catalina I recently sold). Didn't make an offer because the owner's unrealistically high price. If the I find one for sale that is priced within 15% of what it's worth I will make an offer. The Seawards are just too much money.
My question to you is what do think about how the IP 27 sails, my wife and I would use the boat for day sailing south of Fort Myers FL?

We have a B 331 w/swing keel, we have been down to the Keys and the Bahamas with it from NJ twice so far. I do not know anyone that has the 311, but I will try to answer any questions that you may have. Our boat does not point into the wind as well as most of the boats where we sail, but we can go a lot of places that other boats can't. Our boat draws 2' 11" with the keel up. The IP 27 is a great sailor. She points as well as most. In light air she does have problems. Mine was a (just sold) fixed full keel and backing into my slip with the 2 blade prop was interesting. Quality of the boat was excellent. I'm still looking for a 321 or a 311.
