Or the 361 owners, that baby stay takes up vital space on the deck where I would like to place the dinghy. I'm thinking it's there for a reason and not recommended that it be removed. Just looking for confirmation to help me avoid doing a dumb thing I guess....

Yes, the baby stay keeps the mast from "pumping" when you are slamming into waves. It's one of the great features of the the 361, because it makes the rig so strong. I wouldn't remove it unless you are always sailing on flat water (like an inland lake). Even then, I'll bet your insurance company wouldn't cover a dismasting if they find out you removed a stay.

The 361 is so beamy that stern davits work very well for hoisting a dingy, which is much more convenient than putting one on deck. Plus let's face it, dinghies on deck look like hell! ;)

Is this how you keep it? Do you have any pictures so we could see how it looks like? It sounds interesting.
Happy new year.

We put Garhauer davits on our 361 last Spring. Best thing I ever did. We actually use the dinghy more since it's right there. It took my wife and I one weekend, most of which was planning, measuring and overcoming the fear of making holes in the boat. Oh yeah, it would also help if you have a small child available to get in the opening thru the panel in the port lazerette to reach under the propane tanks and on the starboard lazerette. No kids here, so it was tough, thought I "lost" my wife forever at one point.
I did'nt mind making small bolt holes but no way was I getting the sawsall to extricate my bride. Go with the davits!

I spent are hours installing a motor hoist for the outboard. Just drilling those holes me wheezy. I know that the Davits are probably the best way to go though.

Re: Photos of Davits on 361

awesome pics of the davit! I think this is my next project, unless the teak comes in soon ) Did you get them from Garhauer direct and did it come with everything including the "studs" for the stern? I'm thinking of anchoring the rail to the back stay eyes but we have full enclosure that'll have to be cut for that to work... how do the bars work? does it give extra hand holds for getting in/out of dingy?

Re: Photos of Davits on 361

Everything came from garhauer. The support bars from swim platform to rail are totally rigid once in place. The do make a good grab hold getting out of the dinghy. We have a WM dinghy, had to glue in a lifting ring on bow tube. We use two ratchet straps to snug it up to stern.

Re: Photos of Davits on 361

do they restrict the space on the scoop much? torn between this way or to the back stay anchor. I like the extra holding back there, in big waves just getting hold of something back there is a challenge.

Re: Photos of Davits on 361

I don't think it restricts. Still plenty of space to sit for my wife and I with feet in the water. The bars do really provide a great grab point getting in or out of the dinghy
