Has anyone had any experiencing trying to bend stainless steel tubing? I have a pedestal guard that is straight and I wanted to angle the top slightly and install a Navpod with instruments. I think the tubing is about 1.25 inch diameter. Thanks

Do you know an electrician?

I have bent 7/8 stainless with a conduit bender. I am not sure about 1". Home depot sells conduit benders. It would be better to have your electrician do it though. As simple as the tool is, your can ruin a your work piece fairly easily. r.w.landau

If it's really critical...

If the piece is critical I always take it down to a muffler shop or a shop that does hydraulic lines for tractors, trucks etc. They can do compound bends and such and are always very reasonable. g'Luk

SS Tube Bending

One option is to build the form on plywood with a way to hold one end of the tubing steady. Pack the tubing with sand, being sure to plug both ends. Begin bending using your body weight and strength to make a slow bend. Stainless steel work hardens so be careful during the bending process. Have you a source for the tube? If you need help in tube selection or understanding of terms, please just ask...I sold SS tubing for 24 years and now buy it for a major defense contractor.

Ebay!

As an electrician I've bent stainless and slight bends are no problem but if it kinks then you'll regret it.*cry I have seen brand new pedestal guards on Ebay already bent at the angle for electronics,in fact I always look cause it will be a lot simpler to replace mine then bend (you have to remove it from the boat to bend)then sell your old one on Ebay :)
