My Ben 311 used to have a mainsail tack fitting before I got the boat. I have been using a line to hold the tack to the mast and boom. Is there a fitting or shackle or tack hook that one uses for this purpose?

There is a dedicated shackle that connects the tack of the sail to the boom. It's probably a mast manufacturers part number.

I don,t know about the 311 but my 323 is pretty simple. There is a hole in the die casting on the boom fitting and all I ever do is use a shackle through the grommet in the tack and pin it to the hole in the top of the boom casting. Any shackle with the right pin diameter works. not a specialized piece of hardware.

The 311 is a bit different take a look at Charleston spars. I'm still trying to figure mine out since the boat is new to me. See pic
