I had to adjust belt tension way too frequently not to mention cleaning the dust from the abraded belts on my 4JH2E. Alignment was good. On closer inspection both the V pulley (over the fresh water pump) and alternator pulley had pitting from corrosion. The corrosion looked as if the engine had not been run in some time because it seemed to be the length of contact with the belt, and too deep to clean with emery cloth.
Bought a $16 V pulley and a $100 alternator from ebay:

Yes it seems too cheap, but it is identical to the original alternator in every way except no paint.

Zero dusting / adjusting and I have a spare alternator. Just have to get the pulley changed.
