I am installing a B&g below deck autopilot on my hunter 340. The linear drive unit is going to be mounted in the aft port lazzerette. I will make a hole thru which will allow the ram to interact with the tiller arm. I need a way of allowing the ram arm to push and pull while keeping the water out of the lazzerette. Does any one have any suggestions or recommendation.

All that comes to mind right now is a hood which goes slightly above the hole in the side of the lazzarette. Good for keeping rain water out, not so good for spray washing.

How big a hole will you require or is it more like an elongated slot to follow the movement of the tiller ?

On a Hunter 38, the linear drive passes through the interior to the tiller arm under a deck plate in the cockpit. The interior is sealed from the exterior using a "seal boot". You can see in the Hunter documentation here: Link to manual

This isn't a Raymarine part as best I can tell, I looks kind of like an automotive manual transmission shifter boot.

The boot stretched around the drive unit allows the drive to articulate but still keeps most of the moisture, spiders, etc from getting into the enclosed spaces.

The boot looks like the perfect solution regardless of where it's mounted as long as the vertical movement is sufficient for the travel of the tiller.
