My new boat came with a bell (chrome). It's really nice. Where do i install it and why.

Install, or keep, the bell in a handy spot to use as an audible signal in fog. Or you could get a fog horn and use the bell to call the kids for dinner!

If it is the removable type, place the bracket as high and as close to the helm as possible without interfering with he operation of the boat.. Be cautious about it affecting the compass, based upon the composition of the bell. You will probably never find a use for it but the CG requires it as do many states.

The bell from hell!

I, too, received that chrome bell with my Hunter. The only convenient spot to mount it is in the cabin, from which location it can't be heard by other boats in the fog. I mounted mine alongside the front door of my house. It makes a cute door bell. Then, for my boat, I bought a handheld bell which I keep handy in a cockpit lazarette and which makes just as much noise as the one that came in the sailpac kit. Hunter must have received a good buy on those impractical chrome bells. Dale Wile s/v Grandechild Sandpoint, Idaho
