bedding with foam

I am rebuilding a C22 and tomorrow I go at her with butyl tape and stainless bolts, nuts, backing plates etc UNLESS some of you have experience with using closed cell foam to make gaskets for all the fittings I need to bed. I can buy this foam at craft stores; it comes in 8 1/2" X 11" sheets about 1/8" thick and is great for making bass and bluegill poppers. Just tell me I'm daft and this is a stupid idea. Thanks.

My Dad bought a 5th wheel camper a couple of years ago. He's had to take it back for them to rebed the windows with real butyl instead of foam. I'd stay away from the stuff, personally.

I would urge caution about any type of foam for gasketing or bedding. Any material that has a rebounding characteristic could cause the fasteners to work loose. If nylon locking nuts or their equal are used this will overcome some of this problem.
Most bedding materials stay plyable but don't have a lot compression pushback. Specific bedding materials like the butyl tape offered by Maine sail on this site work best. Your butyl tape would also work.
