What would you use to bed the screws for the snaps used for a dodger?

For those "lift the dot" studs I just use a marine silicon because the heads break off every few years making them kinda temporary. I just did a couple yesterday on the "roll up windshield" section, the ones used most break soonest, of course.

Funny you should ask.....

Because I recently discovered that one of the snaps for my dodger was leaking. I'm sure there are a million ways to skin this particular cat, but i removed the snap, countersank the hole in the deck, and used a small amount of butyl tape when re-installing the snap.

It was quite a bit of work (I did all of them), but haven't had a drip since.

Plus 1 on the butyl.
BTW there is an ad on the back of Good Old Boat from Sail-rite with snaps that crimp on using a rivet tool instead of the West Marine piece of c**p crimper. Looks lie a pretty strong permanent hold. If you already have a rivet puller you won't need to buy one however the dies are pricey.

Indeed, there are things that 5200 is great for, but I wouldn't think that canvas snaps are one of them. Particularly when they break. Eeeeeew.

Bedding compound was designed expressly for bedding things on boats. It's cheap, very easy to use and very, very easy to clean up.
5200 is an adhesive, NOT a bedding compound. Beware, it is a very, very good adhesive.
