Bedding Pedestal Guard Flanges

I am changing the pedestal guard flanges from a single center bolt to a flange that will take 3 thru bolts so I can run some instrument wiring through the flange and up thru the guard to the helm. What should I use to bed/seal the new flanges and bolts to the cockpit deck?

Are the flanges just metal, or is there a rubber gasket involved? I'd use butyl if we're talking metal to fiberglass. And I'd pot the holes with epoxy to protect any balsa or plywood core.

I would also use butyl. Better yet have you considered attaching them to the pedestal. This eliminates the potential leak in the cockpit sole.

I don't have a rubber gaskets, though I suppose I could make a pair if that is much preferable to butyl. I will bed the bolts and make sure there no voids under the cockpit sole. Steve, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you suggesting there is a way to attach the feet of the pedestal guard to the pedestal instead of the cockpit sole as it is now?
