OK, I know that this has been covered a brazilian times but what are the recommendations for sealing a deck water fill. I have been using Life Caulk for small stuff (ends of screws, etc.; I know I'll hear a lot about that). This is a bit larger seal so just curious.
thx

Ya, was thinking the 4200, but considering 4000 UV since it will be on the deck in direct sun.
Thanks

Not sure where your located but I would use Mainesail’s bed-it butyl and follow his directions for bedding.

I used butyl tape on mine. No deck leaks this year!

As info, I used some I bought on Amazon...worked ok. Bought some from MaineSail this year....his is better...
....more flexible and workable.

+1 for Bed-It Butyl - once you try it, you won't use anything else. No mess, doesn't leak and you can pretty easily take it apart in the future.

Thanks all for the replies. I actually have a roll of butyl that I never used. One question in this application. Videos and guidelines call for covering the entire base and beveling the holes, but they always talk about bolts, not screws. Also state that you should not spin the bolt when tightening. Not possible with screws, which affix my deck fill. Has anyone used bully with screws?

I’ve never used it with screws but butyl continues to expand for days. Considering this I think it would fill into any void left by turning screws.

Do remember that butyl is not the choice around fuel fills. It dissolves.

I rebed my water and waste pumpouts with butyl, and I have screws, not bolts.

I would be careful not to use too much tape under the flange, and do it on a warm day (or warm up the tape). If it is cold and the tape is really hard, the screws may not be able to draw the flange down. I did mine when it was cold out, so warmed up the tape in front of a heater in the cabin, and stepped on the fitting to press it down while putting in the screws.

We had some huge rains in Chicago area this week. Today I was out at the boat working on a project, and the bilge was dusty dry, and no leaks around the fills/pumpouts!
