Most of the presenters I talked with used local wood if they could but also mahogany and other exotics. Epoxy resins were used with UV inhibitors either brushed or sprayed for the clear wood look. There were a lot of people there with at least 40 boats, sail and power along with other exhibits. I should have been there sooner. There was a nice gaff rigged dory that could get up on plane to skim over the tidal flats common in this area. That particular presenter copied a boat his grandfather had done a century ago. He pointed to the museum and said there was a lot of info available on local boat design inside if I was interested in more details. We'll have to go back during the week to the museum.

Hey All U Get I forgot to tell you about a great opportunity while you are in town. Directly across the parking lot from the Town Docks office on the corner is a store called the Beaufort Kite Company (or something like that). It is a yellow building. They will take you over to the airport, strap you onto a hang glider, then tow you up in an ultralight airplane. Once you are at altitude they cut the line and let you hang glide back to earth somewhere. You should definitely take advantage of this rare opportunity while in town. A word of caution though, don't land in deep water, also don't land on a busy road, and if the V22 Ospreys from Cherry Point or New River are doing touch and goes at the airport try not to get tangled up in their rotors.
