I recently purchased a 1994 Hunter 23.5 that I plan to sail in the shallow waters around Lewes, Delaware this year. I have seen several photos of H23.5's sitting completely out of the water on the beach. This looks like a great way to take a break during low tide, but is it a safe thing to do? Wouldn't this place a lot of weight and stress on the portion of the centerboard that doesn't fully retract into the hull?

There are some horror stories about losing the centerboard after beaching and there are others that do it regularly without problems. I for one don't think it's good for the board or the hull, but i sail where u can't beach anywhere anyways. If you try it just make absolutely sure that your board is high and tight.

I tried with my H260 in silt and mud. I was very uncomfortable and stayed just a few minutes.

I like to anchor in about 10'. That way people jumping off the boat are not at risk of hitting the bottom.

Thank you for the fast replies. That is what I suspected - I think that I'll play it safe, and keep her in the water. Thanks again....
