I was wondering if it posed any danger to the centerboard or hull to beach the boat on a sandbar to clean the bottom? We have alot of bars here in Beaufort to use and a 7' tide, so getting on and off really isn't a problem.

Question. What is the difference in the years that this would happen with the older boat?

The H-22 was built from 81-85. Some were built with fixed keel. Some were built with swinging keel. swinging keel extends below the hull even when retracted. and will not support weight of boat. Fixed keel has draft somewhere near 5 feet. if you ground the boat and the tide goes out the boat will lay down on its side.

If you can wedge hard styrofoam flotation blocks each side of the centerboard while she's still floating, that will take the weight. I've also seen folks come up bow on, secure an anchor line to the main halyard, raise it to the top, kedge off the anchor a hundred feet or so, and crank down with your main block; rolls the boat right over on her side. Make sure your rigging is up to snuff. Repeat on the other side.

I have a swing keel H22, and while at a mooring, had the tide go out plenty of times, and she layed on her side. No problems. I wouldn't run one up on a beach like a beach cat, they weren't made for that, but if you pull up close and let the tide go out, I wouldnt worry too much about it, so long as the bottom is sandy.
