What will happen if I beach my boat and the tide runs out. So far it seems to work fine in the mudd. If I do it in the sand will the centerboard crack or put too much pressure on the hull. I check for rocks and hard stuff under the hull to avoid scratching the paint too bad. Is this boat ok to beach on the hard stuff? Frank

beach the boat

use common sense... when 2 hard things meet at forces or weight one has to give, this case the fiber-glass and the rock. you figure it out, it's your boat !!!

Done it, but be carefull !!

Frank, I've beached both my 23.5 and my 26. Pick a calm day. Who wants to sail with no wind anyway. Look for a bottom that falls off a little below the surf line. When we beached at Willoughby Spit in Norfolk, VA, we came in slow, and walked the anchor onto the beach. We also drop a stern anchor and use it to keep us from being hung up. I would not do this with an onshore wind, or a cross wind. This could end up blowing you broadside onto the beach, in which case you would be in a heap of ____. Another option is to parallel the beach, drop a bow anchor, and after it is set slowly back toward the beach. When you are in 3 feet of water, you can hop off and walk a line from the stern to the beach. This makes it easier to get off the boat. We used this several times on the Mississippi where currrent can make it tricky to get to some of the islands. Mike Pajewski H23.5 "Summer Rental" & H26 "Loon"

We do it All the Time

We drop an anchor and come in stern first then run one in up the beach. If you are going to let it sit on the beach high and dry I am sure you let the ballst out. Before our marina was dreged out all of the boats were beached (actually mudded) to some degree in the winter.
