I keep my boat in little neck bay..I was wondering if there were any sandy beaches that you could pull your boat close and go swimming anywhere within maybe 2-3 hours..I know I could go to orchard beach by city island but i would prefer to go a little farther east to get some cleaner waters....I have been to short beach in smithtown bay by the nissequogue river..which is a beatiful beach...but that would probably take 6 hours to get to with my little 9.9 horse..I think it would be good to travel 2 hours..then spend 2 hours at the beach..and then 2 hours home..that sounds like a good timetable I think..any suggestions??

I'll recommend Center Island Park which is just past Bayville. You could anchor in the Sound or go around into Oyster Bay and anchor.
The beach on the Sound side is nice and sandy. Bayville also has some beach parks that are pretty good.
I would suggest a drive out to see what you like and then check the charts for anchoring considerations.

The last time I was in Oyster Bay the dog fell overboard while we waited out a hurricane that (luckily) didn't appear. Exactly a year earlier and within 1000 feet of the same spot was the only other time the dog fell overboard. Kinda weird.

BTW, that was a looooong time ago.
