I don't TEEENK so...
Title 36 does prohibit the discharge of galley WASTE in lakes and rivers (I'd have to look it up to know whether it includes coastal waters too)...which make its illegal to toss chicken bones overboard, but not grease drippings from the grill while cooking the chicken, or oil in the skillet from frying it.
Next time you see him, ask him for the citation in the CFR or USCG regs pertaining to the "discharge" of vegetable or animal fat. If that were "technically" or any other kind of violation, it would also be illegal for galley gray water that has any grease in it to go overboard.I asked CW4 warrent officer Chad Wolfe USCG this morning at church concerning this. He said that technically it is a violation but he never heard of anybody getting a citation for it. So just don't get grumpy when the law enforcement gang comes by to chat.
