Bayfield 25...anyone familiar?

In my search for a more wife friendly trailersailer I am looking at a boat heretofore unknown to me in my limited experience.A 1974 Bayfield 25,2 cabin,inboard diesel,seems pretty sturdy.At a hair under 3 ft draft so should be as easily launched as my current boat of same draft.Anyone know this boat?Intend to use for Keys and Bahama (on a very good day) trips as well as larger lakes.Appreciate any info/opinions.

Super boat, solid. A friend at a lake three hours north of here had one when we had our C22. Lots of room, great layout down below. A very pretty boat. The usual "does your tow vehicle have the strength" comments apply.

Here is a link to the active Bayfield owners group in yahoo. I was a member for quite a while when I was researching the Bayfield 36 and 40. I have a couple Bayfields on my river and they really look nice. If you want detailed information on anything bayfield....the yahoo bayfield group is the first place I'd look. I'm sure there are a bunch of bayfield owners on this forum as well who will chime in.

I agree with Stu about these Bayfields. Very nice, sturdy, and very traditional boats. I think it would be great for the purposes you mentioned: day trips and casual cruising, in particularly shallow waters. The one I am somewhat familiar with has a one-cylinder diesel and like a number of one-bangers, expect some engine noise and vibration. Not great performance upwind, but ok off the wind. But overall, a good choice for your purposes.

They are built in Canada (or were). Good quality generally. Good boats for skinny water. Aren't very fast. Good tracking ability, comfortable for a boat of her size in a seaway (but she is only 25' so don't expect big boat comfort). Never knew anyone who owned a Bayfield that didn't like it for cruising purposes. Remember the overall length includes the sprit and clipper bow design. So, interior might be surprisingly small for a boat of the same length. In other words, a Bayfield 32 has an interior more like a 28' boat, but roomy nevertheless. You'll know if it has the room you want when you try it on for size.
