Let me clarify my original question about purchasing a Bavaria boat. There has been a lot of debate about the accident aboard a Bavaria Match racing boat. I'm not looking at a "Match" boat. I'm just considering a Bavaria 35' Cruiser and looking for input. My wife and I are interested in cruising Mexico and want a boat that is comfortable for short-term cruising and will hold its value while we become familiar with sailing and really find out what we want. What price might we expect to pay for a Bavaria 34 which is really 35.5 feet long? Thanks!

Bavaria Yachts

Are they actually different? I would have some serious second thoughts after hearing about the 'match race version'. Why do they only provide two winches?

Bavaria Sea & See Trials

I chartered a Bavaria 41 through Horizon in the BVI. I chartered the boat because when I went to the Annapolis Boat Show the Bavaria looked like a Swan but the cost was closer to a Hunter. And truth is it is a good "in between". If I was going to "step up a notch" or do what you are planning I would seriously consider the Bavaria. If they are tough enough for the charter market they can handle the gulf (IMHO). The link below will take you to the Horizon website with lots of pics and prices of some used Bavs. Charter one an give it a try.

practical sailor review

Go to the practical sailor web site and see if they have a review on the Bavaria Yachts you are looking at or one close to it. Down load the review. This will cost about $15. You’re not going to get any useful advice here. People like their boats and don’t want to consider another boat to be better. There is more to buying a boat than construction. You have to make sure you like the layout. There is different reason to by different boats. You may want a steel toe rail, you may not. I like a steel toe rail. You may want a bigger aft cabin or you might want more storage.
