Catalina 30 long beach
Good morning Peggie, I have had a three to four month on going battle with the head in my cat 30. Its a wilcox original 1981 issue, I beleive. So far there is no winner in this battle!!!! The senerio is as follows:develooed back presure when pumping, had holdong tank pumped out, still back presure. Followed your advice in other posting and reran the vent from the original 5' snake to a short straight up line. In doning so pulled line off the holding tank and discovered, the hard way, that the tank never pumped out (clogged vent i suspect). Any way, repumped the tank and all was fine til the weekend. Now I have developed a new problem....When i flush the head and place the pump in dry mode the head fills up with what i beleive to be raw water within 30 minutes, punp it out and it fills back up. It will fill to the top of the rim and that is as far as it goes (so far!!). I have closed the raw water thru hull to the head and am monitoring the water level, but am looking for some guidence as to my next attack. Where do aI go from here??? Thanks Peggie for your time spent, I've made it this far only because of you imformative postings bobcat

It's time for a new toilet., Bobcat..and a vented loop in the

head intake. Your bowl is filling up with flush water because: a) the wet/dry valve has failed...leaving you always in the wet mode no matter which way the lever is aimed...b) your bowl is below the waterline, and without a loop in the intake line that's well ABOVE the waterline, water outside the boat is finding its own level inside the boat via the head intake. The wet/dry cam in the pump is not included in the rebuild kit. That toilet was not an expensive toilet to begin with, and has given its all for 2-3x its average lifespan...it's more than earned a decent burial!:) So find the best price for a Raritan PH II (or PHC, which is the same pump on a compact base to fit in a tighter space) and a 3/4" vented loop for the head intake (it goes between the pump and the bowl--see installation instructions for the toilet)...and after you've installed it, take your old toilet out to sea, pour a little wine into the bowl and toss it overboard to become a part of any other artificial reef. And btw..."clogged vent you SUSPECT?" You don't know? Didn't clean it and the fitting on the tank out while you had it off? Didn't clean out the thru-hull? If you didn't, you're asking for trouble again. Backpressure/backflow almost always indicates pressurized tank due to a blocked tank vent...tank still full after pumpout just about guarantees that's the problem. You need to make SURE the vent isn't blocked--and doesn't ever become blocked. 'Cuz backflow/backpressure/full tank is only the least of what that can cause...if you're lucky, only a major eruption in the toilet...if you're not, a strong pumpout can crack the tank.
