Any ideas on a better battery location for a hunter 1984 34. I am cosidering moving them to a much easier location for maintenance, since I am buying new ones soon. They are currently deep under the starboard seat next to the fuel tank. ?....

Bryan,

There are a few options under the settees inside the cabin. One good choice is under the settee by the water heater. Of course, I didn't do that (at least not yet).

Within this post are details on how I created my house bank inside the cabin. This is your chance to switch to at least 2 6 volt batteries in series for greater capacity. You can buy the batteries at Costco or Sam's Club near you.

Good luck.

Hello,
I just moved mine this week. I had thought about putting a couple under the PORT setee where the water pump and selector valve are, but instead for convenience sake just moved two to the aft cabin berth (I don't have cushions and use it for storage). They are wired in parallel as a house bank while another battery is by the fuel tank as the engine battery, though I can still cross connect the banks through the 1-both-2 selector switch.

Interesting...

First time I've seen them placed there.

Do you use the aft water tank as well?

Well, you know space is at a premium. I have a grill, cooler, extra lines, extra fenders, potable water hoses, shore power cable, etc. under that seat. I would think that putting the batteries that high and aft might adversely affect the boat handling.

Well it is just 3 small batteries. They are spiral cell.Pictures can't show that you can still reach over the top of them.Besides there is 35 gallons of water in the tank on the opposite side. There is a tremendous amount of empty space in my lazzarette. The only reason they are there is because I used to have 2 4D's and two smaller bats. All those batts required constant checking. It was the best place. So when I wore them out, I went with something smaller and maintenance free.Weight was never an issue.
