I recently purchased a 1979 33' Hunter and have a question about the batteries on board. There are three batteries. One 12 volt deep cycle and two 6 volt golf batteries. Since the previous owner left them on board throughout the Michigan winter I intend to replace all three. Can I go with three 12 volt batteries or must I stay with the current setup of one 12 volt and two 6 volt ?

If the two 6 volt batteries

are wired in series to produce 12 volts and then in parallel with the 12 volt battery, yes. In fact that would be better than mixing different sizes of batteries.

Batteries

For house battery banks the pair of six volt golf cart batteries is the best way to go for the money. They last longer than group 30 deep cycle marine batteries. I wouldn't replace them unless the don't hold a charge. They'll go 3-6 years and winter won't bother them unless they go dead and freeze. Buy them at Sams Club for fifty bucks each. You will need to change wiring if you go with 3 twelve volt jobs.

Nice to se another local on the board. I have 2 12 volt batteries on my 30 hunter. I keep a spare baterry on board( not in use but just in case. I use diehard marine batteries and replace them 1 every year ( 3 year life). the one due for replacemaent remains on board through winter as the sacificial lamb. Where are you slipping/morring this season? Pray for wind, Lugeman

2 6volts in series for the house

For house batteries you want amps. 2 6 volt deep cell in series will give you approx. 220 amp hour and 12 volts. Look at Trojan 105.
