I have 2 Exide batteries on My O'Day 272. One doesn't seem to be charging. Will one battery start my diesel until I buy another one. The good one is fully charged.

I think yes, but don't hold the glow plug button down to long.

One battery should easily start your diesel. I think it's a good idea to alternate starting your engine with each battery whenever you head out. This will give you a better idea of the conditon of the battery's ability to deliver cranking amps rather than testing voltage with a DVOM. It's quite possible to have a battery that is "fully charged" that cannot deliver the cranking amps needed to start the engine.

Not sure what engine you have, but assuming a Small (18hp or so) diesel, you can open the compression levers to get the engine to turn over if you find yourself with a weak battery. Once it is turning over, close the levers . Needs 2 people, but it will help if the battery is too weak to turn the engine over.
