I must admit, I know very little about marine electronics.
A few years ago we paid mucho-dollars for two new batteries for our boat.
We have one assigned to start the engine and the other as the house.
Question? Would a couple standard 12v automotive batteries which cost substantially less do the same job? We paid almost $250 each for our present batteries and when I look at the cost of an auto battery $90, I have to think that it might be better buying one of those next time.

Some thoughts..
1- One battery as a house battery on a 36 footer is quite possibly on the small side. This could be why you need replacement so soon as it may cause your discharges to be excessively deep..
2- Automotive batteries will not withstand deep cycles for very long. They can provide for house loads but would have a shorter life doing so compared to a thicker plate battery. It would be fine in a dedicated starting only situation but not for running house loads consistently.. You'll want a "deep cycle" battery for the house loads. These batteries will have thicker plates and are designed for deeper discharges.
Normally cycling the bank between 50% SOC and 80-85% state of charge, when away from the dock,is what you'll be doing so you really only have about 30-35% usable capacity of your house bank. So, if you use 60Ah per day and you want to be able to go for 2 days before recharging, you'll want a house bank in the 400 Ah range due to the 30% usable capacity "gotcha". Good quality deep cycle batteries can be purchased as inexpensively as Sam's Club under the Duracell label. These are really Deka / East Penn deep cycle batteries and are the SAME EXACT battery West Marine puts their label on. The only difference is the price at Sam's is about half of West Marine..
3- I can't say much as to what you paid without knowing what they are. Group 24, 27, 31, or 4D or 8D. Also what type of battery are they wet cell, AGM, GEL..? 12V bank or 6V in series / parallel..?
4- How old are these batteries you have now and how have you charged and cared for them? There may be an issue that should be resolved before spending more money on new batts, only to do it again in another 2 years. Depending upon where you are, and how you use your batteries, I see an average life of wet cell deep cycle batteries ranging from 4 - 7 years, GEL batteries 5-9 years and AGM batteries 2 - 5 years.. A "couple of years" is quite short.. These averages are in Maine where are temps are cooler and this can lead to longer life. In warmer climates batteries generally last less long on average.
5- Do you have a battery monitor or any way to know how deeply you are discharging your bank?
