The battery location on a 240 is in the worst possible place. I am not sure of the mentality of whoever designed the boat. Anyway I to get a high school harry to lift the thing out. I tried several times but no success. I am thinking of moving it and putting in the locker on the starboard side of the boat. The locker under the sette looks like it will work. Instead of running new wire, was planning on just splicing the old with the new. The wiring looks impossible to gain access to and I don't see a way to route the wire down the side of the boat between the hull liner and the outside hull. Has anyone done this and have some experience in it?/

The battery currently is on the aft end of the double bed under the cockpit. To get to it, you have to lay on your belly, slide under and all the way back. When back there, the room is limited. You can't get above it to lift straight up. real rocket science.

240 Battery location
I have a 1998 H240, and the battery is located in the cabin, aft end of the starboard side seat. It is a little difficult to secure it in place, but the biggest problem is it causes the boat to list to starboard. The motor, battery and head are all on the starboard side. I see the drawings show that it is supposed to be located were yours is, and that should keep the boat on a even keel. I thought about moving it, but also thought there might be a problem as what you describe. So I just left it were it is. I would like to locate it under the sink. I never use the water/sink.

He was close on the ownership, my boat was not owned by my father, but he too had a '93 23.5 and it too had the access panel, so it appears that this access panel was something that the dealers had put in both our boats. My father's 23.5 and my 23.5 came from two seperate dealers, but they both had the same idea in mind. As for the battery location, mine is in the starboard settee, and has always been, to the best of my knowledge. This past winter I messed around with the wiring, and noticed that the wire run for the switch panel is pretty short, so I dont think the battery has ever been anywhere else but there. i like and enjoy my 01 240 alot but theres a few flaws like in anything mass produced and sold at bargain prices we just have to"find em and fix em"to our tastes. in the 01 the battery is on a platform on the starboard side aft of the rear berth.for now my batterys(i like a spare just in case)are in boxes bungeed to reinforced eyes set in the rear rib reinforcement on the portside.it takes up rearberth space which i dont use anyway.but it looks kinda slipshod. my idea is to construct from good 3/4"plywood a partial box and epoxie it into the same space the original battery platform is only on the portside insted of starboard.ill use a good quality epoxie in a good amount and let it set up a longtime before putting it underload.when in use the batterys will be rubberstrapped down solid and secure against the occaisional heeling. in this spot its well ballenced. "serenity"sails well.

V ebrth
I moved the battery and added on more to the v berth locker They sit on a plywood shelf and are easy to get to. They balance the boat better with heavy outboard (15 hp).It is possible to tuck wire behind hull liner where it meets the carpeted walls. I added another panel on port cover same as factory.
